Why Do We Teach Math and Read Shakespeare?
I follow a blog called Beyond the Rhetoric, written by Michael Kwan. Recently he has written a multiple part post about the reasons for teaching math in school and reading the works of famous writers. Do these subjects have any value in the real world? Why read Shakespeare? Why learn math, or the quadratic equation? There has been some very worthwhile discussion that you should check out. Follow the links above to each post. Comment if you like, your opinions we help further our insights and learning.
What do I think about math and reading in k-12 education? Go to Beyond the Rhetoric and find out.
I read a lot of blogs, Beyond the Rhetoric is one of the best. Subscribe to the RSS and you will not be sorry. You may also subscribe via email.
